Ladies, if you haven't heard of the Bra Barrette you are missing out on a great little gadget. Bra Barrettes are made of a flexible, durable plastic that simply fixes your straps so they won't go anywhere. I hate when my bra straps slide down my shoulders! But, don't let the name deceive you. This isn't just for bra straps! I also wear mine with my: spaghetti strap tank tops and strappy dresses over t-shirts to sport that fashionable but still modest look, camisole straps under a dress shirt or jacket, and swimsuit. It is so comfortable that sometimes I forget I am even wearing it. I received the yellow Hibiscus charm with silver Bra Barrette and a plain clear one to try out. Unfortunately, I didn't have much that matched the yellow Hibiscus charm with silver Bra Barrette except for my bathing suit. I guess it is time for me to go clothes shopping or maybe Bra Barrette shopping :)

Since these also come in a variety of colors and styles to choose from you can pick from plain to hold straps under a shirt to ones with Swarovski crystals to go with that little black dress and bring some bling to your back. They are also going to be unveiling more sizes very soon to accommodate the very petite and the broader shouldered woman. You can even mix and match charms with the Charmed line of Bra Barrettes.

My favorites are the Dolphin Charmed Copper, Swarovski Crystal Volcano Teardrop, Antique Multi-Colored Crystals Drop, Plumeria, CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements AB Crystal De Art, Copper Filigree Teardrop Charmed Black, Pink Orange Flower Charmed Silver, and the Sealife Charm Pack.

The nursing bras I'm currently wearing were bought solely for nursing. I didn’t care too much about comfort, style, or a perfect fit when I bought them—as long as they fit okay and allowed me to nurse, great. But most of them have straps that continuously slide down my shoulders. I would always find myself readjusting the straps, but not anymore, thanks to the Bra Barrette.

Do your straps like to play peek-a-boo? Bra Barrettes are a flexible and durable plastic that easily slips onto your straps to keep them in place under clothes all day, comfortably. Is the elastic in your bra strap more like a bungee cord? A Bra Barrette will extend the life of our hardworking bras. Often the elastic is the first thing to go. Save some money - use a Bra Barrette to keep your straps in place. Does your exercise routine include: stop, reach, tug. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat? As women we get mad at men when they “adjust” in public, yet we do the same thing!! Get a Bra Barrette and Get Bra Confident!

It’s TIME! You deserve a Bra Strap Holder with Function and Fashion! The Bra Barrette is not only functional, but with the added charms and crystals it’s fashionable too. Each Bra Barrette is tinted plastic so the color will never fade. Each charm is attached by a clasp so you can interchange your charms to match your outfit! For our Crystal BBs we use Genuine Swarovski Crystal.

The Bra Barrettes come in three different styles: Plain, Charmed, or Crystal. I was fortunate to receive a Plain Clear Bra Barrette (ARV $3.99), and it was very easy to put on. Literally, in just a matter of seconds, you’ll have the Bra Barrette attached to your straps, and it easily adjusts if necessary.

At first I thought the plastic wouldn’t feel too good against my back, but it was surprisingly comfortable, and I actually forgot it was on! I had it on all day, it made my bra fit better, and best of all—no more playing around with straps!

If you want to add some “back bling,” you can attach one of the Charmed or Crystal Bra Barrettes to your tank tops or spaghetti strap dresses. The Bra Barrette is offered in many different colors, and you can choose from a variety of charms or crystal options, so you can find the perfect Bra Barrette to suit your style.

The Bra Barrette is a functional accessory offered in many fashionable options that is now a necessity in my wardrobe!

You've seen them, those commercials that let you know you can hide your bra straps with ease and comfort. I'll admit, I get sucked into them. I'm not a fan of bra straps sticking out of clothing - to me you just don't look as crisp and kept when they're hanging out. However, it's hard to keep those straps hidden, especially in certain shirts. Let me introduce you to the Bra Barrette.

The Bra Barrette is easier to use then the Only Seen on TV Bra Strap hider I have because it's a bit bigger and easy to slip your straps through. These also come in different colors and aren't just made to keep your bra straps in place. You can also use them for tanks to pull the straps together to make a fashion statement, there is even jewelry to add to them. Though that's not really my thing, I have a family member who think it's fabulous and looks great.

I did have a bit of a problem and can't wear my Bra Barrette with nearly all my bras because I'm big busted and my bras don't exactly have little slim straps. Maybe before children, but not now - I need something with more support and because of this is just twists the barrette. This does not happen with smaller busts that do not require as much support - it actually works great!

There are many different Bra Barrettes to choose from along with the jewelry, all to suit what you're looking for. Also different colors depending on what outfit you're wearing

If you're constantly adjusting peekaboo bra straps and fiddling with dress or camisole straps, you'll find the solution in the functional Bra Barrette. Also known as "back jewelry," these stylish accessories keep wayward straps in place and even add a dose of sophistication to your look. Keep it simple with a plain version or opt for an adorable charm enhancement, like a Swarovski crystal, flower or martini glass!

A fashion revolution started by a paper clip? Who knew? Lara Merriam-Smith knew – that’s who.

Wearing a cami and a pair of shorts a few summers ago while grading her students’ papers, Lara kept on pulling up her bra straps that kept on slipping off her shoulders. This case of FBSS (Falling Bra Strap Syndrome) was becoming increasingly frustrating for Lara. The traditional cures of the safety pin, rubber band, and hair barrettes weren’t cutting it anymore. Then it happened. She looked at the blue paper clip in her hand and that’s when the idea struck her to create a product that would hold her straps in place.

Well, the rest as they say is history. Since the first day she bent that little blue paper clip into a spiral shape, the Bra Barrette has evolved from simply holding straps in place into adding jewelry to the back.

Since its inception, the line has expanded to include new colors, charms and Swarovski crystal versions. This year, two new sizes will be introduced – a larger version that will accommodate women with wider shoulders and a petite version for girls under 8 and women with narrow shoulders.

Recently, the product made its celebrity debut at the Sundance film festival and will be featured in Elle magazine in March.

We received six products from the Bra Barrette. From the ‘Plain’ collection, we received the Tripack which retails for $7.99. From the ‘Charmed’ collection, we received the Copper Fairy Charmed which retails for $9.99 and the Copper Flower Charmed Pack which retails for $11.99. From the ‘Crystal’ collection, we received the Opal Crystal Casual Silver which retails for $17.99, the Big Bling Black with Crystal Clear Crystal Drop which retails for $34.99, and the Volcano Crystal Covered which retails for $39.99.

The best inventions are those that come out of necessity and this crafty little invention certainly falls into that category.

Let’s start off with the Tripack which comes in Copper, Silver, and Black. This a must-have basic set. Every woman I know (except for those who don’t wear bras), has been caught covertly reaching into her shirt to put her bra strap back into place. I have done this many a time but no more.

These barrettes are made from a durable food grade plastic and are extremely flexible. They bend and move with you. I also notice that when I use these barrettes, it’s easier for me to keep my back straight because pulling the straps in, ends up pulling my shoulders out. Love it!

Unlike the plain Tripack, the Copper Fairy Charmed and the Flower Charmed Pack are meant to seen. I have a halter top with an elongated keyhole in the back. When I wear the copper barrette with the interchangeable charms, the charm appears to be hanging out of nowhere on my back as seen through the keyhole and it is absolutely sexy. As I walk, the charm swings from side to side and the movement is simply adorable.

Now onto the Opal Crystal barrette, which I actually tried with my white bikini top - I know, the east coast is buried in snow but in the west coast, we’re experiencing summer-like temperatures. I’m telling you, I can’t wait for warm weather because I don’t think I’ll ever wear my bikini top again without this little embellishment. From the back, it's like a totally different bikini top altogether. Plus it makes my back look bejeweled, definitely a fabulous thing.

The last two barrettes add bling to the back – the Volcano Crystal Covered and the Big Bling Black with Crystal Clear Drop. I wore both of these (at different times of course) out to dinner. They are conversation starters, not with the person you’re having dinner with but with those passing by from behind. In particular, the waitresses who never fail to notice them.

Now if you’re thinking you can’t wear any of these barrettes until the weather warms up, not so. What you do is put your spaghetti-strap tops over a long-sleeve or a thermal shirt and you’re good to go!Your options are only limited by your imaginations, so layer away!

The Bra Barrette is a great way to add some drama to your outfits. I was not able to use the Bra Barrette myself because, as the website explains, the Bra Barrette is NOT one size fits all. Soon, in addition to the average size one, they are planning to release a "petite" and "large" version. But I love the idea of the Bra Barette. It is beautiful and functional.

Ladies, the Bra Barrette is a great solution to an age old problem. We’ve all been there, wanting to wear a cute tank top but not having a proper bra, and so we either wear it and let the straps show, or constantly fiddle with them, or even (gasp) go bra-less to wear it! Well, the Bra Barrette offers two solutions, and the first is that it easily converts a standard bra into one that is perfect under a tank top. But that’s not the only thing you can do with a Bra Barrette!

They can also be used to change the look of a strapy tank top! Because the Bra Barrette comes in both plain, and decorated styles, they can be used as a fun way to dress up a tank as well as just an easy way to hide bra straps. The decorated versions even use genuine Swarovski products in some of the options, and they are all made of a comfortable, durable, plastic.

I really loved the way it worked to keep my straps hidden under my tank top. I didn’t have to worry at all about my straps falling down! I also really like that it’s a product made here in the USA. The prices are great as well, with plain Bra Barrettes starting at just $3.99, and charmed versions at $9.99, making them an awesome value, especially when considering the cost of a new bra!

Be in command of your straps. Smart women know this is the best way to keep straps in place. Even if you don’t use it every day, you should have one in your repertoire for gardening, yoga, business meetings, classes, or running around after the kids.

I can't wait to try these out this summer with my tank tops!

Most of us women have trouble trying to keep our bra straps in place. The Bra Barrette was designed to help you keep your straps stylishly in place or to act as fashionable strap holders for tank tops and spaghetti-strap dresses.

I received a Bra Barrette similar to this one with a flip flop on it and a plain one I think they're just the coolest accessory ever! I wear a lot of tank tops in the summer and this is the perfect accessory to make them look more stylish. It's so easy to use, you just go under each strap and it's done. The charms come on a lobster clasp and are interchangeable so you can always change your style. These also come with Swarovski crystals on them. They are 100% guaranteed and are made in the USA. I think this is a must have accessory for every woman.

Bra Barrette: You don’t know it yet, but you need it

Interested in better posture? Putting the life and lift back into your favorite bra? Having “Lara Croft shoulders”? Having a better jawline and cheekbones?

Then you need a Bra Barrette.

What is a Bra Barrette, you ask? Instead of making a DIY contraption (string, paper clip, rubber bands, etc) to keep your bra straps from sliding off your shoulders, the inventor of the Bra Barrette had a stroke of genius - how about creating an cute, fun plastic bra strap holder? One that actually works - hook one swirly side under your bra strap, hook the other side to the other strap, adjust to the spot you want it, and you bra and bra straps stay in place all day.

And so the Bra Barrette was invented. Cool, eh?

So let’s take a look at some of the benefits of the Bra Barrette, other than your straps staying in place (which is enough of a benefit in itself!):

A decent part of my workout is working my shoulders and core to get great posture - but holding perfect posture all day really isn’t feasible under all circumstances. The Bra Barrette provides a nice reminder to hold your shoulders back, down, and together - giving you a long, lean, graceful look.

Speaking of working out, I adore the Bra Barrette in the gym - I hate having to pull my bra straps back up when I’m on the bike. If you push it a little farther down on your strap (closer to the band), it also stabilizes your bra like a sports bra but without the discomfort. It’s also great if you wear a tank or cami top to the gym - with all of Bra Barrette’s great designs and optional interchangeable charm packs (check out all the adorable designs!), you can wear your Bra Barrette like jewelry on top of your clothes - and at the same time, keep your bra straps from peeking out from under your tank. I’m loving my copper Bra Barrette with a little sailboat charm attached over my tank! Jewelry that doesn’t look ridiculous at the gym!

And since this is a beauty site, we have to talk about how it makes your facial contours stand out. When you stand with your shoulders in the right place, your neck correctly aligns and you’ll see a more defined jawline and chin. You’ll also see chiseled cheekbones - if you don’t wear a Bra Barrette any other time - wear it when you are putting on your makeup, so you can get a sense of where to contour. And if your chin, jawline, and cheekbones are at their best, then, yes, your lips will look poutier.

And I just thought it would keep my straps from slipping off my shoulders. Silly me.

And the good folks at Bra Barrette now have a Breast Cancer Awareness line of pink Bra Barrettes and all proceeds are donated to Team Bra Barrette for the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk. Support a great cause and get a great product!

The Bra Barrette
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – we love clever.

The Bra Barrette is the genius idea of a school teacher who was tired of fixing her bra straps all the time. (Or from suffering from FBSS – Falling Bra Straps Syndrome – as she calls it.) After taking a paperclip, twisting it an using it to hold her straps in place across her back, she knew she was on to something.

We think the Bra Barrette is a great idea to wear under Mitzvah attire. Noting like “adjusting yourself in public when you’re all gussied up!

A prom time solution for strap surplus
Lara Merriam-Smith was stressed out by her bra straps showing when she wore camis, tank tops and some of her party dresses. So she decided to do something about it.

She created the Bra Barrette, then made it decorative. It comes in clear, black, silver, copper or tan and can be worn alone ($4.99) or with interchangeable charms (barrette with charm: $9.99).

We haven't found it anywhere in Honolulu yet but it's online at www.brabarrette.com.

The Bra Barrette
We’ve shown you products, like Strappers , that pull your bra straps in to hold and hide them beneath racerback tops. Accessories like this are great to have in your closet to adjust your lingerie to work with your wardrobe. I just discovered Bra Barrettes , and they have to be the prettiest version I’ve seen of this type of product! And really, after you’ve spent so much time and care finding beautiful lingerie, it only seems right that if you use a bra strap holder, it should be pretty as well! Bra Barrettes come in several colors (clear, silver, black, or copper) and can be adorned with crystals and/or interchangeable charms. The charms are easy to switch out with the lobster-claw fastening. Bra Barrettes can be used to keep your straps hidden, whether on a bra, slip, or camisole. The Bra Barrette could also be used as an accessory to your spaghetti-strap tops and dresses if you want to show it off.

Interestingly, Lara Merriam-Smith, inventor of the Bra Barrette, has also founded BraStrapSolutions.com. This website provides links and overviews of many competing products, so you can find the best solution for your wardrobe problems.

Remember, if your bra straps are slipping, that could mean that you are having a common bra fitting issue that can be cured by making sure you are wearing the correct size . Slipping straps could mean that your band is too large or your straps are adjusted incorrectly. But if you have sloped shoulders, your bra straps could be slipping even if your bra is correctly sized, and in that case the Bra Barrette could become an everyday essential for you.

Sometimes bra straps are a necessary evil. After some time of wearing a bra it eventually becomes worn and the straps start to get loose. One of the most uncomfortable things is a shifting bra strap that keeps falling off your shoulder. And it’s not a good look reaching under your shirt to adjust your bra strap throughout the day. The Bra Barrette is an innovative solution for this common problem. It has 2 circular ends that your straps can slide right into and it will hold them in place and even draw them together if you are wearing a racerback and want to hide your bra straps. There is also a line of Charmed Barrettes to wear with spaghetti strap tank tops or thin strap dresses. Not only will it keep the straps from sliding but they also add a decorative touch to your outfit with a charm that hangs down your back. There is no reason your back shouldn’t be accessorized as well! And there are lots of charms you can choose from to meet any occasion.

I just recently had the chance to try out the Bra Barrette thanks to the folks at BraBarrette.com! They sent me a silver one!

Just looking at it on the site, I thought that it was an interesting concept, but I wasn’t sure how well it would actually work. It was definitely intriguing! When it actually arrived, and I saw it was a fairly thin piece of plastic, I didn’t think it would hold up! I was surprised on all accounts!

It is fairly simple to put on, and they even have a video on their front page that shows you how easy it is to wear it. The only problem I had was actually moving it down lower on my back. My arms just aren’t limber enough to stretch back far enough to move it, so I asked my hubby to shimmy it down my bra straps for me. He did tell me that he was surprised at how sturdy it was, and that it was not bending at all under the weight of the bra straps.

Now, the comfort factor.  It did feel a little weird having something on my back and I do wish that they stretched just a little bit for comfort, but it definitely worked to hold my bra straps in place! My favorite bra has very thin straps that constantly slide down my shoulders no matter how I adjust my bra. It was nice to actually spend a day out without having to constantly pull up my bra straps.

They do have Bra Barrettes that are covered in crystals, or have charms dangling from the center. They’re quite cute to wear with a spaghetti strap dress, or with tank tops in the summer.

All in all, I think the Bra Barrette is definitely a cute idea, and it does help keep your bra straps on! Something I know many women despise about their bras!!!

Prices vary depending on how much bling, and what size charms and crystals are on your Bra Barrette. The plain Bra Barrettes start at $4.99. You can buy cute charm packs for your Bra Barrette, and have some fun with it! Check them out!

Do your bra straps keep slipping?
The Bra Barrette as a fashion accessory

Lara Merriam-Smith was grading papers for her geology class two years ago when she finally got fed up with her falling bra straps.  She pulled out a paperclip, fashioned it into a double-ended hook, and pulled her straps together in the back.

It wasn't exactly an elegant solution, but it was the start of something really big: The Bra Barrette.

Lara loved the functionality of her new creation and just knew there was a product out there to meet her needs.  After scouring the internet, she could only find very practical and functional (read "ugly") connectors for bras.

Most people would have given up there, but Lara didn't.  She kept tooling with her product until she liked it - adding charms and a little bit of bling to the Bra Barrette for use with spaghetti strap tops and dresses.

Lara wore her Bra Barrette often, and a trip to Maui convinced her to take it seriously as a business.   Every retailer asked her about it and wanted to sell it.

Lara is a smart woman, so she immediately sought a design patent and is now working on the utlity patent.  She then found a manufacturer for her product who conforms to her environment and social beliefs.  Her products are packaged by a team of 11, including some part-time moms who work while the kids are in school along with employees from Work Opportunities , a Bellingham company that provides job opportuntiies for physically and mentally challenged people.

The biggest hurdle Lara has had to face is the newness of her product.  Because it is not a new take on something already out there, people do not intuitively know how to use it.  She has done an excellent job of advertising it herself and on her website, and her packaging also has pictures to demonstrate how to attach it and options for wearing it…..

Next year she plans to add a larger Bra Barrette for broader backs as well as a smaller version for girls to wear with their summer tops.

At the end of our conversation I asked Lara what she would say to women out there at the "paperclip" stage of a new invention.  She recommended they surround themselves with positive people and ask good questions. And then just go for it!

Sage advice from a successful inventor, and very similar to another success story:  Spanx.  I think we are looking at the next Spanx-sized success story.
